Coach Chad Beeten - Former Durango Varsity Basketball Head Coach
"Meet Colton Knoll, the epitome of a well-rounded basketball player and the ultimate team player. On and off the court, Colton embodies the essence of teamwork and selflessness. Whether it's scoring crucial baskets, making precision passes, locking down opponents on defense, or hustling for rebounds, Colton does it all with a dedication to ensuring the team's success. His commitment to elevating their teammates and fostering a winning culture is unparalleled. In every game, Colton's passion, versatility, and unselfishness shine brightly, making them the heart and soul of their team, and a true inspiration for all aspiring basketball players."

"When it comes to the game of basketball, Colton emerges as a relentless force unafraid of the grit and grind, irrespective of the magnitude of the opposition. His resolute physical and mental fortitude is nothing short of awe-inspiring. With unwavering dedication, he tirelessly tackles the challenges of the sport. Colton's attributes as a diligent, team-oriented player who readily absorbs coaching, combined with his impressive efficiency, make him a pivotal asset to any team. His elevated basketball IQ and well-rounded skill set establish him as a formidable adversary among his opponents on the court.
The thing about Colton is he’s not afraid of the dirty work when it comes to basketball, regardless of how big the competition is. Physically and mentally tough. Like seriously, willing to take blows like I’ve never seen, charge after charge all to gain possessions. Hard working, team player, coachable, and efficient are all things I think of when coaching Colton and what he brings to the table that sets home apart. His high player IQ and overall balanced skills make him a major threat to his opponents."
Did you know Durango High School had not won a State Championship in over 27 years?!?!
Yep, it's true!
They last won a state title when they were back-to-back state champs in 1995 and 1996.
Unfortunately, the dream of "running it back" ended abruptly shortly after the 2023 state championship when it was announced that Durango High School would choose a new basketball head coach.
Following the news, several of the core varsity players who were instrumental in their championship run decided to leave for greener pastures and pursue their basketball careers/dreams elsewhere.
Did you know Colton's sister, Casteel (holding Colton's big head), was diagnosed as a Type 1 Diabetic in 2016 one month before her 4th birthday.
She was in the hospital for 11 days and as you can see by the photo she had lost a lot of weight leading up to her diagnosis.
The photo below was taken 13 months later on her 5th birthday.
Casteel turned 11 years old in September 2023 and has now lived longer with Diabetes than she has without it.
Casteel has not let it deter her from leading a normal active lifestyle that includes competitive cheer. :-)

Jerrod (#3) is currently 17 and will be 18 in October 2022.
Javon (#24) is currently 17 and will be 18 in January 2023.
Jerrod lived with Kerry's family for about 3 years and Javon lived on and off over that same duration of time.
And no, Kerry didn't foster them because they were both 6 feet tall by their 6th grade year. ;-)
In 2016, Kerry and his wife, Kindra, "fostered" both of the boys in the picture to the right with Colton, Casteel, and Grandma Nancy (Kindra's mother).
Jerrod (#3) is currently 19.
